Unions rejoice! Today's strike of Alitalia employees is perfectly successful. All happy then? Alitalia continues to sail in complete turmoil. The business plan provided by Cimoli has somehow reduced, or better content, the losses, but the airline continues to lose altitude, and this year, in which it was planned to close the year in surplus, will see yet another budget red, less than the previous ones, but still bad. All the while worldwide there is, overall, a miglioramenteo performance of airlines.
Part of the economic damage to Alitalia is certainly due to the unions that the unrest in late January and continues seguienti the strikes caused extensive damage. The company also complained about levels of absenteeism not found in other situations, but given the extent of staff reductions that occurred last year (-9000 units), which have led to significant savings, the continuing deterioration of the accounts leaves on perprlessi validity of the Plan.
Alitalia Some routes have been revised by reducing overall supply of seats, the flight attendance rates are slightly improved, but this has not brought too many benefits. In particular on
coefficient of domestic flights in attendance did not pass (since April) the threshold of 70% on international average was around 72%. Best performance of intecontinentali showing in the last 4 months to more than a job '80%.
To this we must add to the Alitalia fleet is largely devoted to short and medium range. I'm only 23 aircraft used on long range and only 10 of these new generation ( B777) and with ample flexibility. The medium-and short-haul fleet sees more in line less than 72 "old" MD-80, children of a draft dated 1980, of 152 aircraft.
The end of the tunnel seems to be problematic and the few planes for the long haul, the need to renew (the next 5-10 years) most of the fleet in the medium-range imporrebero significant investment to do today and for those who are already struggling to stand up to ask to fly may be too high.
